Crackle goes further into LatAm

Sony Pictures Television (SPT) has confirmed plans to expand its video-on-demand service Crackle by entering more Latin American countries.

Crackle, which launched in Brazil last month, will now be made available in Mexico and 16 other Latin American countries, its VP and general manager for the region, Jose Rivera Font, has said.

The VoD service provides a mixture of ad-supported film and TV content, free of charge. For Crackle’s first year in Mexico, the country’s national bank Banamex will be its exclusive banking advertiser.

Crackle intends to make new feature films available every week, while still maintaining around 150 titles in its library, which includes films from Sony-owned studios such as Columbia Pictures and TriStar Pictures, in addition to full-length television episodes.

Last month, Eric Berger, executive VP of digital networks at SPT, told C21 the firm would also be looking to expand Crackle into other markets alongside Latin America, such as Poland and India, where SPT already has strong TV network penetration.

The VoD service is now available in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela, as well as the UK, Australia, Canada and the US, where it first launched in April 2011.
