Athena Georgaklis will lead the acquisition of rights and the development of all original content for Nelvana, working with the studio’s producers, creators, and talent around the world.

Georgaklis assumes her role immediately and reports to Scott Dyer, president of Nelvana. She will work closely with recently appointed Nelvana Enterprises head Pam Westman, whose arrival followed the departure of Andrew Kerr, who had been co-head of the company since 2011.

Georgaklis has worked in Canadian broadcast and production for almost two decades and most recently oversaw all original productions for the Corus-owned Teletoon network.

Her credits include Johnny Test, Knuckleheads (English and French), Fugget About It (English and French) and Atomic Puppet amongst others.

Georgaklis’s appointment comes just over six months after Corus agreed a C$2.65bn (US$1.86bn) deal to acquire the TV unit of fellow Canadian media giant Shaw Communications.

The newly enlarged single entity controls 45 specialty and 15 conventional TV stations, along with the Nelvana content studio and nearly 40 radio stations.
