Sky Atlantic in the UK will air the third season of a comedy travelogue fronted by Rob Brydon and Steve Coogan that had its first two runs on BBC2.

The Trip was created and directed by Michael Winterbottom for Revolution Films and originally aired on BBC2 in 2010.

A second season, The Trip to Italy, aired on the pubcaster in 2014 but its third run, The Trip to Spain, has been picked up by the satcaster’s 2011-launched channel.

The show follows Coogan (Alan Partridge) and stand-up comedian Brydon playing semi-fictional characters on a culinary road trip.

The latest series is being coproduced with Coogan’s Baby Cow prodco and Small Man Productions, with international distribution handled by Goalpost Film. It was commissioned by Jon Mountague for Sky Atlantic.

Coogan said: “Having thought long and hard about yet another sojourn into culinary distractions and middle age, I have reluctantly agreed to Eviva Espana. I have a hole in my diary, there will be free food and accommodation and Rob Brydon is surprisingly good company. I also like Michael.”

Zai Bennett, director of Sky Atlantic, said: “The Trip is as close to perfection as you get in comedy. It’s a rare chance to watch comic masters, totally authoring their work with creative freedom. It’s an absolutely perfect fit for Sky Atlantic.”
