CONTENT AMERICAS: Brazilian giant Globo and local independent production company Conspiração Filmes are working together on an original medical drama for Globo’s streaming platform, Globoplay.

Led by Renata Brandão as CEO, Conspiração is known for titles such as Dom (Prime Video), Mandrake (HBO) and medical drama Under Pressure, which premiered as a movie in theatres and became a Globo original series.

The as-yet-untitled project with Globo, announced here in Miami today, will be inspired by the work of Brazil’s public mobile emergency care service, known as SAMU.

Tatiana Costa, director of entertainment, news and content channels at Globo, said: “We are very happy about this new partnership with Conspiração. It will be a realistic action series that exalts an institution that deserves to be applauded. In addition, it has strong and well-built characters that the audience will identify with.

“We believe it is a series that will succeed in uniting Brazil and has elements that connect with international audiences.”

Created by Claudio Torres, Márcio Maranhão and Andrucha Waddington, the project is a Globoplay original, written by Torres and Fábio Mendes. Waddington and Torres will also direct.

Brandão said: “Globo and Conspiração have a long track record, with several successful productions. With this series, it will be no different. We believe in the potential of this story that addresses universal and relevant themes for society, with a narrative that will conquer the audience.”
