Comedy Central duo head to HBO Max

South Side will become an HBO Max original

The second seasons of Comedy Central’s The Other Two and South Side will move from the ViacomCBS-owned cablenet to HBO Max when they launch next year.

The Other Two, which was created by Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider, follows two millennial siblings as they navigate their teenage brother’s rise to internet fame.

The show premiered on Comedy Central in January this year and was renewed for a second season in February, which will now launch on WarnerMedia’s HBO Max as an HBO Max original.

South Side, meanwhile, follows two friends who recently graduated from community college as they seek business success while working at a rent-to-own shop.

Created by Bashir Salahuddin, Sultan Salahuddin and Diallo Riddle, the first season premiered on Comedy Central last month. The recently greenlit second run will also be an HBO Max original.

In addition, the first seasons of both series will be made available on HBO Max in 2021 ahead of the S2 premieres. Both shows are produced by Comedy Central Productions.

As part of the deal, HBO Max has also become the exclusive streaming home to Comedy Central’s semi-autobiographical series Awkawfina is Nora from Queens.

Season one is available on the streamer now, while the second run will premiere in its entirety on Comedy Central next summer before becoming available on HBO Max.

“These ground-breaking and hilarious programmes are cultural touchstones and we are excited about the diverse group of comedic voices they will bring to HBO Max. We know our audiences will want to watch again and again,” said Michael Quigley, executive VP of content acquisitions at WarnerMedia.

“We are strategically thinking of the fans first, and adding these exceptional series to our portfolio allows us to introduce these standout comedies to new viewers on HBO Max.”

Keyes Hill-Edgar, chief operating officer at ViacomCBS Entertainment & Youth Brands, added: “Comedy Central Productions’ deal with HBO Max is emblematic of our studio production strategy to maximise the value of our content by selectively working with third parties while prioritising franchise IP for our own platforms.

“As we shift our strategy and double down on adult animation, topical shows and scripted movies, we are excited to supercharge our studio sales business and continue these great series with HBO Max.”
