Kuwahara, who founded the company alongside Scott Greenberg and Mark McJimsey in 2009, also previously served as president of production at the company, serving as an executive producer and supervising producer on multiple shows at the studio.

With Kuwahara’s exit, all of the Bento Box co-founders have now moved on from the company, which was acquired by Fox in 2019. McJimsey left in 2016 and Greenberg in 2023.

His departure comes amid the continued integration of Bento Box under the Fox Entertainment Studios umbrella.

“As Bento Box Entertainment further integrates into Fox Entertainment Studios, the award-winning animation house enters a new chapter in its journey of creative excellence,” said Fernando Szew, president and head of Fox Entertainment Studios.

“While Joel Kuwahara steps away from his role, his vision as one of the founders of Bento Box and his dedication greatly contributed to its success. We wish him well in his future pursuits.”

Before co-founding Bento Box, Kuwahara was a production exec at Film Roman, where he served as a producer on projects including The Simpsons and The Simpsons Movie. Before that, he was a producer at Warner Bros Animation, Sony Animation and VP of production of Icebox.com.
