O3 Media and DASS Yapim in Turkey are remaking Korea’s Queen of Tears

MIPCOM: Turkey’s O3 Media and DASS Yapim have joined forces to remake CJ ENM’s hit Korean drama Queen of Tears.

The format sale and coproduction partnership, unveiled here at Mipcom, will be the first foreign adaptation of Korea’s 2024 drama hit.

Penned by top Korean writer Park Ji-Eun, Queen of Tears centres around the marital crisis between a department store queen and her provincial husband, who eventually rediscover love.

The series will be coproduced by O3 Medya and DASS Yapım, produced by Saner Ayar and Selen Sevigen and directed by Başak Soysal. Eccho Rights has international distribution rights to the Turkish version. The format deal was brokered by HECE Medya.

The drama was originally produced by Studio Dragon and launched on CJ ENM’s channel tvN in Korea earlier this year and on Netflix internationally.

It became tvN’s highest-rated series to date, nudging a 25% audience rating for its final episode, and now ranks among the highest-rated dramas in Korean television history. Internationally, the drama was among Netflix’s global top 10 non-English titles over a15-week period.

Casting is currently underway, with the producers now in talks with top-tier Turkish talent. The Turkish version is set to premiere on an as-yet undisclosed free-to-air channel over the coming months.
