CITV orders Aardman CGI series first

Lloyd of the Flies is backed by the Young Audiences Content Fund

UK children’s broadcaster CITV has commissioned the first CGI animated series to be entirely produced by stop-motion specialist Aardman Animations.

Lloyd of the Flies (52×11’) will use a mix of CGI and 2D animation to follow the adventures of housefly Lloyd B Fly.

The project marks the first time Aardman, known for the Oscar-winning Walace & Gromit films and Shaun The Sheep, will create an entire CGI series in-house at its studio in Bristol. Its previous CGI series were coproduced with Sony.

Lloyd of the Flies will be directed by its creator, Matt Walker, with Sarah Cox serving as executive producer.

The show is also a flagship project for the government-funded Young Audiences Content Fund, which is managed by the British Film Institute and supports the creation of content for viewers aged under 18.

The fund provides production backing for projects that have secured a commitment from a UK public service broadcaster.
