New York- and Toronto-based Cineflix Productions and LA’s Ping Pong Productions are teaming up to launch factual-focused joint venture Shiny Screens Entertainment with veteran showrunner Will Spjut.

Based in LA, the prodco plans to develop and produce unscripted series and formats, with Cineflix Rights inking an exclusive first-look deal for international distribution rights.

Spjut is a 20-year industry veteran with development and executive producer credits on series including Border Wars, Building Wild and Die Trying for National Geographic; Fox’s Home Free, Nashville Star for USA Network and The World’s Most Amazing Vacation Rentals for Netflix.

Ping Pong Productions, founded by Brad Kuhlman and Casey Brumels in 2006, has produced factual titles such as Discovery’s global adventure series Expedition Unknown and TLC’s Dr Pimple Popper.

For Montreal-headquartered Cineflix Media, which is the parent company of Cineflix Productions, Shiny Screens Entertainment represents the latest in a growing stable of joint ventures across North America and the UK.

Earlier this year, Cineflix Media launched a pair of Toronto-based companies, Husk Media and More to the Story Media. Also launched under the Cineflix umbrella are New York’s First Story Productions; Mirage producer Connect3 Media, based in Montreal; and Marcella and Whitstable Pearl producer Buccaneer Media, based in London.

“Will is not only a brilliant developer but he has successfully produced in virtually every genre across streaming, broadcast and cable, and Ping Pong has a strong track record in producing unmissable original content – we’re all pumped about what we will be able to accomplish together with this exciting new joint venture,” said JC Mills, president and commercial director at Cineflix Productions.

The deal to launch Shiny Screens Entertainment was negotiated by Cineflix Productions’ Mills and Sam Berliner, Bill Abrams for Ping Pong, and James Finney and Sean Zeid on behalf of Spjut.
