Cineflix Rights to handle sales for Lifetime’s reality star biopic I Was Honey Boo Boo

The recently launched Lifetime biopic about child reality star Alana Thompson, who became known as Honey Boo Boo while on the US kids’ pageant circuit, is being shopped internationally by London-based distributor Cineflix Rights.

I Was Honey Boo Boo

I Was Honey Boo Boo (1×90′) premiered on Lifetime in the US on May 17 and examines the pressures and challenges faced by Thompson during her rise to fame on TLC series Toddlers & Tiaras and Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.

Produced by Cineflix Productions and ITV America’s Thinkfactory Media in association with GroupM Motion Entertainment, it reveals how her on-screen confidence concealed the harsh reality of constant criticism and family struggles, particularly with her mother, Mama June.

While in college, Thompson is determined to shake off the labels that have followed her, shed light on the darker side of child stardom and attempt to overcome generational trauma and challenges.

Richard Life, senior VP of acquisitions and coproductions at Cineflix Rights, said I Was Honey Boo Boo will “appeal to audiences who were originally captivated by Alana’s life on TV and what happened to a world-famous child pageant star once the costumes and cameras were put away.”

Other factual series added to Cineflix Rights’ spring/summer 2025 slate, spanning history, music and crime, include: Choir Games (4×60′), Ancient Justice (10×60′), Rome Underground (1×60′) and Trace, Track, Get My Car Back! (16×30′).
