Cineflix Rights racks up multiple sales for history, adventure reality series worldwide

Alexander the Great: Legendary Conqueror

MIPCOM: Broadcasters in multiple countries and regions have acquired a trio of ancient history docs by French prodco Pernel Media, plus mystery history and adventure reality series from other producers, following a string of deals brokered by indie UK distributor Cineflix Rights here in Cannes.

The deals for Pernel Media content includes five buyers across several countries and regions, for Alexander the Great: Legendary Conqueror (3×60’), produced for the Canal+ Group in France and TV5 Quebec in Canada. Buyers span Viasat World for Viasat History across CEE and Scandinavia; RTL and ZDF in Germany; SBS in Australia; and Hearst Networks for Turkey and the Middle East. The series previously sold to Mediaset in Italy and Movistar in Spain.

Viasat World has also picked up Vikings: The Empire of the North Sea (6×60’) for Viasat History across CEE and Scandinavia. The series was also produced for the Canal+ Group in France and TV5 Quebec. Other buyers include ZDF; Disney for Benelux; YLE in Finland; and SBS. Previous buyers include Movistar in Spain.

A third doc series, Ramses The Great: King of Ancient Egypt (6×60’), produced for the Canal+ Group in France, has been acquired by ZDF, DRTV in Denmark and Discovery for Iberia. Previous sales include Hearst Networks for the UK, Benelux, Middle East and Africa; RTL in Germany, Mediaset in Italy, CBC in Canada; Czech TV; Viasat World for Viasat History across CEE and Scandinavia; AMC History for Iberia; and Société Radio-Canada and CBC in Canada.

Separately, Cineflix Rights has closed multiple sales for history docs, including ‘mystery history’ series Vanished History (10×60’), produced by Shark Teeth Films for Bell Media in Canada to Australia’s Foxtel; RTL in Germany; Mediaset in Italy; Discovery in Iberia; and Hearst Networks for Benelux and Africa.

A second history series Commando Missions (4×60’) on Allied covert activities in WWII, produced by Galaxie Presse for Canal+ France, has gone to SBS in Australia; Société Radio-Canada in French Canada; Foxtel in Australia; and Creo in South Korea. Previous buyers include Hearst Networks for the UK, Benelux, CEE, Middle East and Africa; and Czech TV.

A final sale is Australian reality series Cape Carnage: Killer Catch (10×60’), produced by McAvoy Media for Seven Network Australia, UKTV and TVNZ. The series, which follows a family, who make a living from hand-line fishing in northern Australia, has been acquired by National Geographic Channel in the US and Viasat World for Scandinavia and Central and Eastern Europe.
