Cineflix Rights closes raft of deals for Manayek, The Minister in Europe, Australia

Ólafur Darri Ólafsson stars in The Minister

MIPCOM: Arte, HBO Nordics and SBS in Australia are among the broadcasters to have acquired drama series Manayek and The Minister from London-based distributor Cineflix Rights.

Arte has bought seasons two and three of Israeli thriller Manayek (20×60’, Yoav Gross Productions for Kan 11) for viewers in France and Germany. The drama tells the story of a veteran internal affairs investigator who stumbles upon a police corruption case where the prime suspect is his best friend.

HBO Nordics and SBS (Australia) have acquired seasons one and two of Icelandic political saga The Minister. The 16×60’ series is produced by Sagafilm for RUV, Iceland, SVT, Sweden, NRK, Norway, DR, Denmark and YLE Finland.

The Minister stars Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (Trapped, True Detective) as an Icelandic prime minister whose medical condition threatens the stability of the government and the private lives of the team around him.

The deal with Arte was brokered by Sabrina Ayala, Cineflix Rights sales consultant for Iberia, Italy, French-speaking Europe and French Canada. The deal with HBO Nordics was closed by Sandra Piha, the firm’s senior VP of sales, pan-regional, UK, Eire and Scandinavia. Chris Bluett, senior VP of sales for Asia Pacific and Benelux, secured the deal with SBS.

Meanwhile, Cineflix Rights has announced further international sales for its drama series So Long, Marianne following its premieres in Norway, Canada, Germany and the UK. Czech TV, ERR (Estonia), HRT (Croatia) and TET (Latvia) are the latest buyers of the series, following the deals recently announced with Telefónica’s pay TV platform Movistar Plus+ for Spain and Australia’s SBS.

So Long, Marianne tells the love story between Canadian singer and poet Leonard Cohen and Norwegian woman Marianne Ihlen, who inspired the Cohen song that also lends its name to the show’s title.
