Cineflix Productions teams with Anthony Rapp on Hollywood abuse docuseries

Canada’s Cineflix Productions is partnering with actor and #Metoo activist Anthony Rapp on a documentary series looking at Hollywood’s history of abuse and corruption.

The project, Surviving Hollywood, is being developed by the Cineflix Productions team, led by development VP Kristin Wendell, with president and head of content JC Mills exec producing alongside Rapp.

In 2017, in a story published by Buzzfeed, Rapp accused US actor Kevin Spacey of making an unwanted sexual advance towards him in 1986, when Rapp was 14 and Spacey 26.

In November 2020, Rapp sued Spacey for battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress under the Child Victims Act in a trial that garnered international attention. In October 2022, a New York court ruled that Spacey was not guilty of sexually abusing Rapp.

The project will feature interviews, first-hand accounts, archival footage and previously untold stories.

“Divisive opinions on race, culture, gender, ethnicity and sexuality can be traced to Hollywood’s collection of original sins that go back over a century, and understanding how we arrived here is an essential part of changing the culture and moving forward,” said Mills.

Cineflix Productions’ recent projects include Desperate Souls, Dark City and the Legend of Midnight Cowboy. It also recently announced that it is in development on a four-part docuseries looking at how the descendants of historically relevant figures such as Mahatma Gandhi and Winston Churchill honour and uphold their legacies.
