Cineflix Productions options Wakeland novels from Canadian author Sam Wiebe

Cineflix Productions, the production division of Montreal-based Cineflix Media, has optioned the rights to Canadian author Sam Wiebe’s Wakeland novels.

The prodco is in development on a TV adaptation of the trio of crime novels Invisible Dead, Cut You Down and Hell and Gone.

Cineflix Productions brokered the TV rights deal with Michael Levine at Westwood Creative Artists for Chris Casuccio.

The novels follow a 29-year-old ex-cop who becomes a private investigator and fights for justice, his clients and the soul of Vancouver.

Cineflix Productions has looked to expand its slate of crime-focused fiction with recent movies Stolen by their Father and Left for Dead: The Ashley Reeves Story, both for Lifetime in the US.

“Sam is one of the most exciting writers in Canada, and the Vancouver-noir world he’s created is an incredible foundation for an original series,” said Jeff Vanderwal, executive producer, Cineflix Productions.

“I believe Wakeland and the gritty world he inhabits is primed for a global audience.”
