UK pubcaster Channel 4 has commissioned a history series for its More 4 network with the British Museum.

Produced by London- and Glasgow-based indie Tuesday’s Child, Great British History Hunters (4×60’) follows real-life detectorists and the journey their finds make through the British Museum’s Portable Antiquities Scheme.

The Portable Antiquities Scheme records archaeological finds discovered by the public. The series will follow ordinary people, such as metal detectorists, mudlarks and amateur archaeologists, who are out and about all over the country making discoveries every day.

Tuesday’s Child’s creative director Steph Harris exec produces Great British History Hunters, with Paul Golding serving as series producer. The show will premiere on More 4 next year.

Harris said: “After 18 months of being rooted to our homes, a collective curiosity about our local areas has seen a huge rise in reported finds as more people have taken up detecting and mudlarking, and we’ve been privileged to work with the team at the British Museum to be able to follow the process from the moment an item is unearthed to it ending up in a case in a museum.”
