UK commercially funded public broadcaster Channel 4 has commissioned an adaptation of Danish drama Forhøre starring James Nesbitt, Joely Richardson and Richard E Grant.

Produced by Eagle Eye Drama (Before We Die, Professor T), Suspect (working title) stars Nesbitt as veteran detective Danny Frater who is called to a hospital mortuary to identify a corpse only to find it is his estranged daughter. Traumatised by the news she apparently took her own life, Frater sets out to discover the truth about her death.

Also in the cast are Anne-Marie Duff (Sex Education, Shameless), Ben Miller (Professor T, Bridgerton), Niamh Algar (Deceit, Censor), Antonia Thomas (The Good Doctor, Small Axe), Sacha Dhawan (The Great, Doctor Who), Sam Heughan (Outlander, Party Animals) and Imogen King (Clique, Hotel Portofino).

Dries Vos (Professor T) will direct Suspect, with Ed King (His House) serving as producer and Walter Iuzzolino and Jo McGrath acting as executive producers. The series has been written and adapted by Matt Baker (Before We Die, Professor T). Fremantle will handle the international distribution rights.

Jo McGrath, executive producer and chief content officer at Eagle Eye Drama, said: “Suspect has a distinctive narrative architecture which is both incredibly intimate and very intense, which represents an exciting challenge for any actor and I’m sure that’s one of the reasons we have attracted such a high-calibre, talented cast.”
