Channel 4 orders new comedy from British writer, actor Leo Reich and int’l studio A24

LONDON TV SCREENINGS: UK pubcaster Channel 4 has commissioned a comedy series from international studio A24 and writer and actor Leo Reich.

Leo Reich

It Gets Worse (6×30’), which is created, written and starring Reich, follows three best friends who move to London after university but quickly realise the reality of life isn’t what they had envisioned. And then their landlord informs them they’re being kicked out of their flat.

The series was commissioned for Channel 4 by Charlie Perkins, head of comedy, and is produced by A24, whose UK operation is led by Piers Wenger and Rose Garnett. It was unveiled at this week’s London TV Screenings.

In Canada, the series will stream exclusively on Bell Media-owned streaming service Crave.

London-born Reich, 26, made a name for himself with his debut live special Literally Who Cares?!, which was nominated for multiple awards and was later released as an HBO special, produced by A24.

He has appeared on TV series including Late Night with Seth Meyers (NBC), Friday Night Live (Channel 4), Late Night Mash (Dave), Jonathan Ross Comedy Club (ITV) and will also appear in the Lena Dunham Netflix series Too Much, set to launch later in the year.

“Leo has this ability to distil the swirling complications and idiosyncrasies of his generation into succinct, spiky and incredibly funny writing and magnetic performances,” said Perkins.

“The ‘voice of a generation’ label many have given him is valid, and as Channel 4 has always been the best place for the brightest new comedy voices, it feels like Leo’s spiritual home.”
