Channel 4 orders factual series on Times investigation into Kenneth Law poison case

Poison is based on James Beal’s investigation

UK commercially funded pubcaster Channel 4 has commissioned a two-part factual series based on an investigation by a journalist from The Times into a Canadian chef accused of sending more than 1,000 packages of poison to suicidal young people across the globe.

Toronto-based Kenneth Law is currently facing multiple charges of first-degree murder in Canada, to which he is pleading not guilty. In the UK, the National Crime Agency has identified 97 victims who died after buying the poison that was sold on Law’s website.

Poison (working title) is produced by Wonderhood Studios and follows Times social affairs editor James Beal’s investigation, which began by looking into the death of one young man who took his own life with a lethal poison he had bought online.

The series is based on Beal’s articles and accompanying podcast, and features testimonies from the families of the victims.

Joy Ash (Fear Clinic) is series director and producer. Exec producing are Times Media and Wonderhood’s chief creative officer Samantha Anstiss and director of development Tom Garton.
