Channel 4 explores trauma care

UK commercially funded pubcaster Channel 4 has commissioned a docuseries that follows the frontline emergency services that deal with trauma response and treatment.

Spencer Kelly

Produced by ITV Studios subsidiary The Garden, the prodco behind 24 Hours in A+E and 24 Hours in Police Custody, Emergency 21 (working title) goes behind the scenes of the London Trauma System, a network of trauma care in London and the home counties.

With access to frontline emergency care, A&E, ICU, surgical theatres and rehabilitation services, the 8×60’ show will air as two four-part series, each stripped across a week.

The docuseries will film 24/7 over the summer – the busiest time of year for the London Trauma System – as the country emerges from lockdown.

Executive producing are The Garden’s head of factual Spencer Kelly and exec producer Lucie Duxbury. ITV Studios is handling international distribution.

Kelly said: “This privileged access will give an incredible insight into the treatment of trauma on a massive scale, but it also enables us to create the first present-tense medical boxset, with dramatic storylines playing across multiple episodes.”
