Channel 4 commissions second seasonal special based on Judith Kerr’s Mog

Mog’s Bad Thing will debut in Christmas 2026

UK pubcaster Channel 4 has commissioned a second seasonal special based on the late German-British author Judith Kerr’s classic Mog books.

Mog’s Bad Thing (1×24’) is produced by Lupus Films, which also produced Channel 4’s 2023 special Mog’s Christmas.

The hand-drawn animated film will have a theatrical premiere in the UK before debuting on Channel 4 during Christmas 2026. London-based Serious Kids is acting as worldwide distributor for theatrical and TV outside of the UK, and will present the special to pre-buyers at Mipcom next month.

As with Mog’s Christmas, Mog’s Bad Thing is being written by Joanna Harrison and directed by Robin Shaw, with Lupus Films co-founders Ruth Fielding and Camilla Deakin producing.

Gwawr Lloyd, interim head of drama at Channel 4, said: “We’re delighted to bring Mog back in another beautifully crafted adaptation from Lupus Films. Judith Kerr’s stories continue to resonate with audiences of all ages, and Mog’s Bad Thing captures the warmth, humour and gentle mischief that makes Mog so beloved.

“Following the success of Mog’s Christmas on Channel 4, we’re excited to be working with such an exceptional creative team again to deliver another festive treat for families to enjoy together.”
