Challenge show Ultra Mission among Gyokuro Studio formats for Mipcom

Ultra Mission sees experts take on tests of their skills

Gyokuro Studio, the in-house unscripted outfit of Nippon TV in Japan, will unveil three new formats at Mipcom next month, including game challenge format Ultra Mission.

The series is based on a primetime new year special broadcast every year on Nippon TV since 2011. It sees world-class specialists take on tests of their skills, such as a footballer attempting to kick a ball through the open window of a moving bus.

Love on the Menu, meanwhile, is a reality dating show where single professional chefs search for love through the universal language of food.

Finally, Never Look Back is described as a celebrity comedy show that turns a simple act of self-control into a comic battle of temptation, willpower and greed.

Executives from Nippon TV will showcase the three formats at Mipcom’s Treasure Box Japan event at 4pm on October 12 at Hi-5 Studio.

Gyokuro Studio was launched a year ago to develop unscripted formats for the international market. It has developed 10 so far, including social experiment series Majority Rules.

Ken Akiyama, head of Gyokuro Studio, said: “Our new slate builds on that momentum. Whether you are looking for a spectacular gameshow that pushes the world’s greatest specialists to their limits, a dating format where love is served one dish at a time, or a comedy that catches audiences completely off guard, we are ready to co-create with partners around the world and bring these stories to new audiences.”
