CBS to split with Good Wife

The Good Wife returns for a seventh season in October

The Good Wife will end after its seventh season

US network CBS has confirmed that its Emmy-winning drama The Good Wife will end after its current seventh season.

The show, which stars Julianna Margulies, has nine episodes left to run. CBS announced the May 8 series finale in a promo spot during last night’s Super Bowl.

“It’s never easy to say goodbye to one of the crown jewels of your network and studio, much less to a show that is among the best on television,” said CBS Entertainment president Glenn Geller and CBS TV Studios president David Stapf in a joint statement.

“But it also feels very right to end with the seven-year story its creators envisioned, and to celebrate the show’s final run while at the top of its creative game. It has been CBS’s sincere privilege to broadcast and produce The Good Wife for seven extraordinary seasons.”

The Good Wife hails from CBS TV Studios and Ridley Scott’s Scott Free Productions. Scott, Brooke Kennedy, David W Zucker, Craig Turk and Leonard Dick are executive producers, along with writers and producers Robert and Michelle King.

In related news, Scott is producing a CBS medical procedural based on the life of a man who has mirror-touch synesthesia, a condition that causes people to experience the same sensation that another person feels.

Sensory hails from ER veteran David Zabel, who will pen the script and be an exec producer with Scott, David Zucker and Roger Freet of Foundry Media. CBS Television Studios will produce the pilot in association with TriStar Television.
