Two green lights from CBS

UPFRONTS: More details of CBS’s new programming for next season are being revealed ahead of its Upfront on Wednesday, including a drama and a sitcom.

The network has ordered Reckless to series, marking the third drama for 2013/14 it has greenlit so far, after Intelligence and Hostages secured early orders.

Reckless, from CBS TV Studios and Sander-Moses Productions, is a legal drama set in the Southern city of Charleston. Cam Gigandet stars in a show written by Dana Stevens (Safe Haven). Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight) is exec producing alongside Ian Sander and Kim Moses.

Hostages is based on a format developed in Israel and follows a surgeon who must kill the president after her family is taken hostage. It comes from Jerry Bruckheimer TV and Warner Bros TV. Intelligence, meanwhile, is being made by ABC Studios and CBS TV Studios, and follows a cyber-spy who has a microchip in his brain.

On the comedy front, CBS has greenlit Friends With Better Lives, its fifth half-hour series for next season. From Kapital Entertainment and 20th Century Fox TV, the multi-cam sitcom is about friends who think everyone else has better lives. It stars Kevin Connolly (Entourage), James Van Der Beek (Apartment 23) and Brooklyn Decker (Battleship), and is from Friends producer Dana Klein.

CBS has already okayed four other sitcoms for next season: Mom, from Chuck Lorre and Warner Bros TV; The Crazy Ones, from David E Kelly and 20th Century Fox TV; The Millers, from Greg Garcia and CBS TV Studios; and We Are Men (fka Ex-Men), from Tannenbaum Company and CBS TV Studios.

The commissions – as well as cancellations for Golden Boy, Vegas, CSI: NY and Rules of Engagement – come ahead of CBS’s Upfront presentation to advertisers on Wednesday in New York.
