Paramount Global-owned US broadcaster CBS has ordered a singing competition series executive produced by Yellowstone universe creator Taylor Sheridan and singer-songwriter Blake Shelton.

The Road (working title) is a ‘docu-follow’ format following a headlining act, that is yet to be announced, on a journey to discover the next big artist. Contestants on the show will join the headliner on tour and perform as the opening acts in venues across the US, vying to win over the audience and secure a spot when the tour moves on to the next city.

The project has been ordered to series and will debut in the fall of 2025 on CBS.

In addition to Sheridan and Shelton, the exec producers are Lee Metzger and David Glasser. Paramount’s MTV Entertainment Studios is producing the show alongside Glasser’s 101 Studios, Metzger’s Lucky Horseshoe Productions and Shelton.

“There is a revolution taking place in country music. Building a platform with Blake for the next leaders of that revolution is an incredibly exciting venture,” said Sheridan, the prolific creator and executive producer behind Yellowstone, 1883, 1923 and Sylvester Stallone-led drama Tulsa King, among others.

“No more shiny floors and studio audiences. This is where the rubber meets the road – literally. Get in the van, go to the next town and win the crowd,” he added.
