CBS has a laugh on Thursday

UPFRONTS: CBS has ordered five new series for the fall and three for midseason, and expanded its Thursday comedy block to two hours.

We Are Men

Four new comedies have been ordered, namely The Crazy Ones from David E Kelley and starring Robin Williams and Sarah Michelle Gellar; The Millers, from Greg Garcia (My Name Is Earl); Mom, from Chuck Lorre; and We Are Men, starring Tony Shalhoub (Monk).

The first two are destined for CBS’s expanded Thursday night comedy block, alongside established hits The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men.

New dramas include fall series Hostages, from Jerry Bruckheimer; and midseason series Intelligence, starring Josh Holloway, Marg Helgenberger and Meghan Ory, which takes the same Monday 22.00 slot from midseason.

The network has also renewed 20 series: NCIS, The Big Bang Theory, 60 Minutes, Elementary, How I Met Your Mother, 2 Broke Girls, NCIS: Los Angeles, Person Of Interest, Survivor, Criminal Minds, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Two and a Half Men, Undercover Boss, Hawaii Five-0, Blue Bloods, 48 Hours, The Amazing Race, The Good Wife And The Mentalist.

As well as Intelligence, CBS has other new series waiting in the wings for midseason, including legal drama Reckless, Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight), and sitcom Friends With Better Lives, from Dana Klein and Aaron Kaplan.
