CBC, Paramount+ renew air ambulance medical drama SkyMed for second season

Medical rescue drama SkyMed

Canadian pubcaster CBC and streamer Paramount+ have renewed airborne medical drama SkyMed for a second instalment, with filming currently underway in Ontario and Manitoba.

Produced by Piazza Entertainment in association with CBC and CBS Studios, the show follows air ambulance pilots as they pull off high-stakes rescue missions.

In Canada, the second season will debut on linear network CBC and its streaming platform CBC Gem. It will stream exclusively on Paramount+ in the US, UK, Australia, Latin America, Brazil, Italy, France and Germany.

The series is created by Julie Puckrin, who also serves as exec producer alongside Gillian Hormel and Piazza Entertainment principal Vanessa Piazza. Paramount Global Content Distribution handles international distribution outside Canada.

The show’s ensemble cast is led by Natasha Calis, Ace Nadjiwon and Morgan Holmstrom, with Sydney Kuhne, Ryan Ali and Nadine Whiteman-Roden joining as series regulars for season two.

Elsewhere, Paramount+ is cancelling sci-fi series Star Trek: Discovery after its fifth season which will premiere early next year. The reboot of the classic sci-fi franchise premiered in 2017 and is produced by CBS Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment.
