A broadcaster in Canada has acquired Netflix original preschool series True & the Rainbow Kingdom from Toronto-based Guru Studio.

CBC/Radio-Canada will air the first two seasons of the show, which debuted on the streaming service outside Canada last year.

True & the Rainbow Kingdom follows an intelligent and fearless heroine and her feline best friend as they help the whimsical citizens of a colourful universe.

The series is developed and produced by Guru Studio and is based on the concept by artist collective FriendsWithYou in collaboration with Home Plate Entertainment and US singer Pharrell Williams’ media firm I Am Other.

“This celebrated show introduces children to positive qualities such as empathy and mindfulness and demonstrates how they can empower children in such a colourful and playful way,” said Marie McCann, senior director at CBC Kids.

Guru last week announced it had appointed Jonathan Abraham, director of international sales and acquisitions at fellow Canadian children’s firm Portfolio Entertainment, as senior director of sales and new business development.
