CBBC orders Small World talent show

CBBC in the UK has commissioned a local version of a Romanian musical reality talent format, following a deal with LA- and London-based formats company Small World IFT.

The digital channel has ordered a 10-part version of Mom Made Me a Star, which hails from Romania’s Media Factory.

Originally aired on Prima TV, the new commission will see the show air in the UK under the title Got What it Takes? Currently in production with DCD-owned Rize USA for CBBC, the 10×30’ series will launch in early 2016.

Luci Burnley, senior VP of formats at Small World IFT, said the deal marked the first ever order of a Romanian format in the UK.

“Romania is a hot-bed of creativity and we’re seeing fantastic success on the international stage with formats originating there – for example, Media Factory’s Miss Country Girl, which has already been licensed to China, Thailand and Ukraine,” Burnley said.

Offering an intimate look at the parent-child relationship, Mom Made Me a Star follows the singers and their pushy parents as they learn about the realities of the music industry, whilst honing their musical skills with mentoring from a professional vocal coach.

In each episode, the singers and their mums are separated to undertake a variety of challenges, with three spots to perform at the end of the show up for grabs.

The Got What it Takes? format will be sold internationally by Small World IFT.
