Caracol, Inter Medya to coproduce a Turkish drama with a Latina protagonist

Colombian broadcaster Caracol Televisión and Turkish company Inter Medya have sealed a coproduction agreement for a new telenovela Leylifer, produced by Alim Yapım, which is being shopped to buyers here at the LA Screenings.

Shot in Turkey, Leylifer tells the story of a young Colombian woman living in Spain whose life takes a turn when, on a trip to Istanbul, her Turkish husband disappears and is later found dead.

The 120-episode series stars Cuban-American actress Camila Duarte, and Turkish actors Can Verel and Pervin Balcı.

“Leylifer is the staging of two powers in narrative quality: Colombia and Turkey. This, added to the production expertise that both companies have provided, has resulted in a premium telenovela that we know will generate great demand from the international market,” said Lisette Osorio, VP of international business at Caracol Televisión.

Can Okan, founder and CEO of Inter Medya, added: “With Leylifer we embark on an extraordinary journey that celebrates the creative fusion between Colombia and Turkey. This extraordinary effort marks just the beginning of our shared vision, as we look forward to a future filled with captivating coproduction projects.”

According to Beatriz Cea Okan, VP and head of sales and acquisitions of the Turkish company, the collaboration with Caracol “has withstood the test of time.”

“This project not only shows the creative synergy between Colombia and Turkey, but also serves as a testament to our shared commitment to deliver exceptional content,” she said.

Kadir Doğulu, co-founder of Alim Yapım, added: “I am proud to be a part of this series as a producer and an actor, and I believe it will serve as a beautiful bridge between two cultures.”

For Inter Medya, this is its second foray into this type of coproduction with the Hispanic world, after having launched Hicran with Telemundo in January. The show has already been sold to Kanal D in Turkey and to Mediaset in Spain.
