Canwest gives Lost Girl a home

Canwest’s Showcase channel has ordered a 13-episode drama from Toronto-based indie Prodigy Pictures.

Lost Girl, set to debut in 2010, follows a female demon trying to live in the human world while resisting her urges to kill people.

As well as traditional broadcast, the series will be a cross-platform production with development underway on an interactive website, downloadable game and graphic novel.

Prodigy is developing the series with participation from the Canadian Television Fund, the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit and the Ontario Media Development Corporation.

It is being executive produced by Jay Firestone, Paul Rapovksi, Plato Fountidakis, Michelle Lovretta and Peter Mohan. The series was created by Lovretta, who is also writing the script alongside Mohan.
