Canela Media picks up telenovelas, series in first distribution deal with Globo

Globo’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit

US Hispanic ad-supported VoD (AVoD) platform Canela Media has acquired series from Brazilian broadcasting giant Globo in the first deal between the two, including The Life We Lead, Anti-Kidnapping Unit and Edge of Desire.

The agreement covers 14 Globo titles that Canela Media will make available in the US and around Latin America, excluding Brazil.

Merciless, Total Dreamer, Sweet Diva, Empire and Precious Pearl are also among the other titles included in the deal. Globo’s productions are also available on VoD platforms such as Butaca TV, Pluto TV and Vix.

“This is our first agreement with Canela Media and we believe it is an important step towards expanding Globo’s presence in the AVoD business model,” said Isadora Filpi, Globo’s content distribution and partnerships exec.

“Latin America and the Hispanic US are important territories for us, who already know our products, so having another distribution window is a way to reach new audiences.”
