Upcoming UK drama series Joan has been pre-bought by platforms and broadcasters including Canal+ for France and French-speaking territories, CBC in Canada, Prime Video in Africa and NBCUniversal (NBCU) in Latin America.

Made by Snowed-In Productions for commissioning broadcaster ITV in the UK and coproducer The CW in the US, Joan is a six-part drama starring Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones) as real-life notorious jewel thief Joan Harrington in 1980s London.

The other pre-buyers in Europe are Magenta TV in Germany, SVT in Sweden, NPO in the Netherlands, Denmark’s DR, Norway’s NRK, Finland’s YLE and Blue Entertainment in German-speaking Switzerland and Lichtenstein.

Also pre-buyers include Ireland’s RTE, Hellenic Telecommunications in Greece, the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation, Iceland’s RUV and Hot and Yes TV in Israel.

In the Americas, BritBox has taken a second window for Canada, with the CBC taking the first. In Asia, BBC Studios has picked up the series for BBC First and BBC Player, while Pumpkin Films has licensed it in China.

Pre-sales have also been agreed with Stan in Australia, Sky Network Television in New Zealand and ABC Commercial for both Australia and New Zealand.

All3Media International handles global sales for the series, which was created and written by Anna Symon. Symon also exec produces with Richard Laxton and Snowed-In’s CEO Ruth Kenley-Letts, creative director Jenny Van Der Lande and chair Neil Blair.

“Our earlier coproduction agreement with The CW combined with this raft of new pre-sales will ensure viewers around the world can experience Joan’s compelling story, and we look forward to signing more acquisitions ahead of – and beyond – the drama’s debut in the UK and US,” said Louise Pedersen, CEO at All3Media International.
