Canal 10 to air Uruguay’s first version of classic Big Brother format

Uruguay’s Canal 10 will adapt Banijay’s classic Big Brother

MIPCOM: Uruguay’s Canal 10 will adapt Banijay’s classic Big Brother format for the first time in the country.

The announcement was made on the third day of Mipcom, with Canal 10 saying the first edition of Big Brother Uruguay will premiere in August 2026.

Adapted in more than 70 countries, the format was seen as impossible to adapt locally in Uruguay due to the scale of production.

For this reason, the adaptation will be produced on the set built in Buenos Aires for the Argentine version, which returned to Telefe in 2022 and has since had three editions produced locally by Kuarzo Entertainment.

All Argentine versions of the format have also been broadcast in Uruguay, where they enjoy great popularity.

Created by John de Mol and first broadcast in the Netherlands in 1999, Big Brother has accumulated more than 500 adaptations in over 70 territories.

Casting for the first edition of Big Brother Uruguay will open in early 2026.

The format is distributed by Banijay Rights, and the Uruguayan version will feature production services from Kuarzo Entertainment.
