Canadian comedy Children Ruin Everything

Roku in the US has acquired exclusive rights to the forthcoming Canadian comedy Children Ruin Everything.

The half-hour comedy, created by Schitt’s Creek and Kim’s Convenience writer Kurt Smeaton, will make its US debut exclusively on The Roku Channel in 2022.

In Canada, the eight-part series is scheduled to debut on Bell Media-owned network CTV as part of its 2021/22 broadcast schedule.

Produced by Toronto’s New Metric Media, the production outfit behind hit comedy Letterkenny, Children Ruin Everything tells the story of a couple who struggle to find a balance between being parents and being the people they were before they had kids.

The series stars Meaghan Rath (Being Human, Hawaii 5-0) and Aaron Abrams (Blindspot, Hannibal), with Ennis Esmer (Blindspot, Schitt’s Creek) and Nazneen Contractor (Ransom, Heroes Reborn) also among the cast.

Chuck Tatham, executive producer on series such as Modern Family and Arrested Development, Meaghan Rath, and New Metric Media president Mark Montefiore are executive producers, with Beth Iley serving as producer.

The series is produced and developed by New Metric Media in association with Bell Media for CTV, with the participation of the Canada Media Fund. Bell Media Distribution is the international rights holder and New Metric Media is the exclusive sales agent.

“Roku Originals have been an important part of our overall content portfolio for The Roku Channel this year and we are pleased with how they have performed. Our focus is on delivering a broad selection of compelling content from award-winning creators and talent to our audience for free,” said Roku’s head of scripted Colin Davis.

“Children Ruin Everything represents an exciting step in the growth of Roku Originals as we continue to build up our slate with a great variety of originals from all over the world.”
