Toronto-based production company Shaftesbury has named Liz Levine as senior producer and VP of television.

In her new role, Levine will lead all aspects of Shaftesbury’s scripted slate and oversee properties as they leave development and head into production. She will report to Shaftesbury chairman and president Christina Jennings.

Levine has worked as a producer, development exec, journalist and writer over the past 20 years. Her recent credits include seasons two and three of anthology series Two Sentence Horror Stories for The CW. She has also developed and produced films such as Kyra Sedgwick’s directorial debut Story of a Girl, starring Kevin Bacon.

Shaftesbury is the production company behind series including CBC’s long-running drama Murdoch Mysteries, which was recently renewed for a 24-episode 16th season. It also produces police procedural Hudson & Rex (Citytv), horror anthology Slasher (Shudder, Hollywood Suite) and drama series Departure (Global, Peacock).

Most recently, Shaftesbury’s Ireland-Canada coproduction SisterS was commissioned by Canadian SVoD Crave, Ireland’s RTÉ and AMC Networks-owned IFC.

“It’s wonderful to have a producer with Liz’s breadth of experience on our team to take stories from the page to the screen,” said Jennings.

“Her writing and journalism career combined with her years as an independent producer means that she thoroughly understands the entire process of storytelling for the screen.”
