Canada’s Portfolio opens animation studio

Canadian producer and distributor Portfolio Entertainment has launched an animation studio in Toronto.

Portfolio’s studio covers 9,000 square feet and currently has three projects in its pipeline, including Teletoon series Freaktown.

Senior VP of production Julie Stall has taken the helm at the new studio, along with head of studio operations Sonya Carey, while Dave Beatty is the senior producer and showrunner on Freaktown.

Portfolio is now meeting with coproducers and channels from around the world to bring more projects under its “collaborative roof,” the company said.

The expansion is part of Portfolio’s plans that began last year after a new senior management team was introduced.

Portfolio specialises in children’s, factual, and primetime content, while its distribution division, Portfolio International, represents more than 2,000 episodes of children’s, lifestyle and factual programming.
