Calimero finds German home

A German broadcaster has picked up the animated revamp of Calimero, the 48-year-old Italian chicken who has also been sold to Disney Junior EMEA and TV Tokyo in Japan.

Super RTL will air Calimero (104×11′), which follows a loving but hapless chicken that was first seen on Italian TV screens in a series of 1960s advertisements.

The new CGI version, coproduced by French animation studio Gaumont-Alphanim, Italy’s Studio Campedelli and Calidra, has already been picked up by numerous international broadcasters.

Meanwhile, the German broadcaster has also picked up the recent CGI series based on Beatrix Potter’s classic Peter Rabbit character. The cartoon, titled simply Peter Rabbit (50×11′), is a coproduction between Irish studio Brown Bag Films, Penguin Books and Silvergate Media and was commissioned by UK preschool channel CBeebies and Nickelodeon in the US.
