Gu, who was most recently regional president and MD of the Special Olympics in East Asia, has been named CEO of CAA China, which was launched in April.

CAA has been operating in China since 2005 but launched its dedicated Chinese arm with regional media investment group CMC Capital Partners to expand its focus across entertainment and sports in the country.

“In our 12 years in China, we have built the region’s largest and most successful motion picture agency,” said Richard Lovett, president at CAA, which has launched a US$150m movie fund in China.

“Now, we are moving into the next stage of our strategic growth plan for CAA China. Mary will accelerate this momentum using her expertise and network of relationships to further diversify our capabilities and reach in sports and entertainment throughout the region.”

Gu oversaw fundraising and opening ceremonies for the Special Olympics organisations, and secured coverage for the 2007 event in Shanghai on Chinese and international TV.
