C4’s Nevine Mabro appointed to lead BBC Storyville as head of strand

The BBC has appointed Nevine Mabro as head of Storyville, taking the helm of the corporation’s distinguished documentary strand that has established itself as a showcase for the best international documentary filmmaking.

Mabro brings more than 25 years of experience in world news and documentary production to the role, having built a career as an award-winning commissioner, executive producer and journalist.

Mabro joins from Channel 4, where she was a commissioning editor specialising in international documentaries and current affairs. Accolades for the films she commissioned and exec produced during her tenure at C4 include two BAFTAs, a Peabody Award, a Grierson award, the Rory Peck Impact Award, three BAFTA Craft Awards, and the Prix D’Italia.

At Channel 4 she also ran Unreported World, the long-running and award-winning foreign affairs series. Prior to her commissioning work, Mabro held several senior editorial positions at Channel 4 News.

It was during this period that she produced For Sama, the Oscar-nominated feature documentary directed by Waad al-Kateab and Edward Watts, a film that went on to win multiple international awards. Between 2012 and 2017, she executive produced three International Emmy-winning programmes produced from Syria.

In her new role, Mabro will report to Fiona Campbell, controller of youth audiences and interim director of unscripted programmes. She begins at Storyville in January 2026.

She is hugely respected within the industry as a champion of bold and original storytelling and I’m looking forward to her leading BBC Storyville into the future.”
