C4 wears arts on it sleeve

UK pubcaster Channel 4 has unveiled a series of contemporary arts programmes to be stripped across its schedule for 10 nights in August.

The Street Summer season will focus on street art, dance, rap, hip hop and street sport, accompanied by additional programmes on its spin-off film and entertainment channels Film4, E4 and More4.

Street Dance Wars (working title), produced by celebrity chef Jamie Oliver’s London based prodco Fresh One, will air over three nights in August, following performers at July’s Street Dance XXL UK Championships in London.

A 90-minute documentary called Concrete Circus (working title), from Renegade Pictures and ChristieHQ, will examine urban sports, while UK indies Lemonade Money and ACME will make a 60-minute doc for the season exploring spoken word and rap.

UK prodco Twofour will produce a one-hour documentary looking at Street Art and Graffiti, and Fresh One will create a 120-minute programme called How Hip Hop Changed the World.

Street artist Banksy’s Oscar-nominated documentary Exit Through The Gift Shop will also be shown, along with a new short dance film, One Man Walking (1×30′), which was greenlit by C4 arts commissioning editor Tabitha Jackson.
