C4 trails autumn slate

The UK’s Channel 4 has unveiled its autumn slate of factual and comedy programming including its much-discussed Drugs Live event.

Drugs Live: The Ecstasy Trial (wt) from Renegade Pictures will feature volunteers taking class A drugs under controlled conditions across a two-part documentary.

C4 is also preparing to air Plane Crash, a one-off 90 minute doc on a scientific experiment to crash a passenger jet full of cameras in the Mexican desert. The programme was coproduced with Discovery and made by Dragonfly.

Blue light obs doc 999: What’s Your Emergency, historical engineering series Guy Martin: Building Britain and The Aristocracy (wt), a new series on modern day high society from Bafta winning filmmaker Patrick Forbes, are also included on the slate.

The channel’s factual entertainment slate includes Hotel Britannia (wt) which will take chef Gordon Ramsay, C4 regular Mary Portas and others and put them in charge of a hotel aiming to raise money for employment charities and training schemes.

Property and design series Kevin McCloud: Man Made Home, technology programme Stephen Fry: Gadget Man and Jamie and Jimmy’s Food Fight Club from Jamie Oliver’s Fresh One Productions are also slated.

In comedy Full English, an animated series on a British family, and dating game show Baggage, lead the commissions as C4 begins the hunt for a new head of comedy following Shane Allen’s defection to the BBC.

The channel is also preparing its first live fundraising event – Stand Up To Cancer will be a week-long season of programming culminating in a live event to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.
