C4 slates obesity, property shows

Channel 4 (C4) in the UK has ordered nine original shows about topics ranging from interior design and the property business to a competition show about obesity.

UK prodco Red House is making Sarah Beeny’s Clicks and Mortar (6×30′ working title) about two families selling their houses via an online website, as well as interior design show Inside Out Homes (6×60′).

Damned Designs (4×60’) is being produced by North One TV and explores homeowners who’ve built extravagant structures without regulatory consent, while Can Property Pay My Wages?, from IWC Media, finds out if workers can give up their jobs and earn a living from their houses.

Also on the property front is Charlie Luxton’s Shore Thing (6×60′), from True North, which takes viewers to the best coastal buildings in the UK.

Elsewhere Fatonomics (4×60′), from Maverick TV, sees two overweight people betting they can lose more than their competitor, while The Shut-Ins (6×60′) from Blink Films, explores the lives of those trapped in their home because of their extreme weight.

Meanwhile Frances Atkins’ Autumn Feasts, from Keo Films, follows the Michelin-starred chef as she provides behind-the-scenes access to operations at her Yorke Arms restaurant.

Finally London-based indie Arrow Media, known for its Live From Space event that aired on C4 and Nat Geo, has been greenlit to make a three-part second run of Dogs: Their Secret Lives.

This follows last year’s one-off documentary of the same
name with each episode filming three different dogs and their behaviour when left alone.

The commissioner was Tom Porter at C4 and Nick Metcalfe executive produces for Arrow.

All nine shows will air later in 2014 and into 2015 and have been commissioned by C4’s head of features and daytime Gill Wilson, and her team of commissioning editors including Nick Hornby, Lizi Wootton, Stef Wagstaffe and Alex Menzies.
