C4 drama chiefs leave for ITV

UK broadcaster Channel 4 (C4) has lost two of its two main drama chiefs, who are stepping down to launch a joint venture prodco with ITV Studios (ITVS).

Noho Film and TV, led by Camilla Campbell and Robert Wulff-Cochrane, will focus on scripted drama aimed at young adults and will begin developing projects early next year.

The 50-50 venture will see Campbell and Wulff-Cochrane named creative directors, while ITVS will be represented on the company board.

The executives have run the C4 drama department for the last two years, commissioning series such as Misfits, Skins, Fresh Meat, Beaver Falls, This is England ’86 and ’88, and Top Boy.

“We’ve had a fantastic time at Channel 4 and leave behind many great friends and colleagues,” Campbell and Wulff-Cochrane said in a joint statement.

“We’ve also been lucky to work with an extraordinary array of creative talent and hope that through Noho Film and TV we can continue working with the best writers and directors across theatre, film and television to make outstanding shows.”

“This joint venture is a new way for ITV Studios to work with creative talent and continue to build our drama output,” added ITVS MD and former C4 programming chief Kevin Lygo.

“Camilla and Robert have commissioned some of the most successful and interesting young adult drama in recent years; with their creative leadership we expect Noho Film and TV to quickly develop a strong production slate.”

C4 has yet to appoint replacements.
