C4 captures Yeti Media stake

Yeti is behind shows including The Wedding Guru

UK broadcaster Channel 4’s Indie Growth Fund has made its first investment since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, taking a minority stake in Cardiff-based Yeti Media.

C4 is now seeking more investment opportunities following the deal with Yeti Media, the first Welsh company to join the broadcaster’s Indie Growth Fund portfolio.

Yeti has made numerous TV programmes across genres including arts and history, documentaries, features and factual entertainment. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

Led by creative director Siân Price, Yeti is responsible for shows such as The Wedding Guru (BBC), Charles: 50 Years a Prince (ITV), Going for Gold (CBBC) and C4’s Find It, Fix It, Flog It, which has been commissioned for a fourth season.

Part of the Rondo Media Group, Yeti has also been behind one-off documentaries including C4 titles Britain’s Favourite Detective, World’s Tiniest Masterpieces and The Secret World of Emily Bronte and BBC duo Abortion: Beyond the Backstreet and Sylvia Plath: Inside the Bell Jar.

Caroline Murphy, head of C4’s Indie Growth Fund, said: “Channel 4 is committed to generating more opportunities in the nations and regions, and the Indie Growth Fund has a vital role to play by investing in ambitious indie production companies so they can develop and nurture talent across the UK.

“This is the first Indie Growth Fund investment since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic and we’re really keen to explore other investment opportunities.”

The Indie Growth Fund was launched by the commercially funded UK pubcaster in 2014 to aid the growth and development of local creative businesses.
