BYUtv, Shaftesbury, Beta team for Canadian veterinary procedural Barton Vet

Georgina Reilly stars in Barton Vet

Family-focused US network BYUtv is teaming with Canadian prodco Shaftesbury and German studio Beta Film on a new veterinary procedural.

The Canadian project, titled Barton Vet, is described as blending medical drama, romance and heartfelt storytelling. Filming is currently underway in Ontario, with Georgina Reilly (Murdoch Mysteries, Quantum Leap) starring in the lead role.

In the show, Reilly plays an adventurous and driven veterinarian who takes over their rural family veterinary clinic following the death of her father. Saving the lives of animals while juggling love and hardship, she must learn to heal herself along the way.

Toronto-based Shaftesbury, which is behind series including Murdoch Mysteries and Hudson & Rex, produces the show in association with BYUtv and Beta Film, the latter of which is handling international distribution. Shaftesbury also works with Beta Film on Hudson & Rex, which has aired for eight seasons on Canada’s Citytv.

Executive producers on the series include Shafesbury’s Christina Jennings and Scott Garvie, BYUtv’s Andra Johnson Duke and Erik Christensen, Beta’s Oliver Bachert, as well as Ken Craw (Heartland), Adam Pettle (Nurses) and director Felipe Rodriguez (Virgin River).
