Two years ago, former Food Network president and HGTV general manager Courtney White got together with Brent Montgomery’s US unscripted production group, Wheelhouse Entertainment, to launch culinary content-focused Butternut.

The Connecticut-based company’s current slate includes Next Baking Master: Paris for Food Network and Max, and Celebrity Family Food Battle for Roku, with eight other shows in various stages of development.

White spoke with Neil Batey about Butternut’s programming, how the cooking genre is holding up in the current commissioning climate, and the way a new generation of content creators is disrupting the dessert world.
