Busy market for Buena Vista

MIPCOM NEWS: Buena Vista International Television (BVITV) has signed yet more deals here in Cannes, with finished tape going to Turkey, Korea, Singapore and Iberia.

Turkish distributor Saran International has acquired exclusive free-TV rights to a selection of live action series, first-run features, library features and kids series, to license to broadcasters across the country.

The multi-year deal includes Lost, Jetix Europe’s What’s With Andy?, Sonic X, The Why Why Family and movies such as Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and Sweet Home Alabama.

In Korea, where the Disney distributor has seen plenty of business this market, reality channel Real TV has picked up the first eight seasons of competition series The Amazing Race.

The Jerry Bruckheimer/Bertram Van Munster reality show is set to air in Korea in November on a channel that launched in February and reaches six million Korean homes.

Elsewhere in the Hermit Kingdom, Munhwa Broadcasting Company has concluded a multi-year licensing deal for BVITV library features including Pirates of the Caribbean: The Case of the Black Pearl, Shanghai Knights, Hidalgo and The Recruit.

MediaCorp TV12 Kids Central, Singapore’s free-to-air channel for children, has also taken BVITV’s new preschool series Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, which is also scheduled to air on Seven Network Australia and TVNZ New Zealand later next year.

And finally, AXN Spain and Portugal has concluded a new deal for rights to US series crime thriller Criminal Minds and legal drama In Justice, plus an array of Disney, Touchstone and Miramax movies.
