Buccaneer, Hans Rosenfeldt dramatising CJ Tudor’s The Chalk Man

SERIES MANIA: Buccaneer, the London-headquartered production company behind ITV and Netflix’s Marcella and Irvine Welsh’s Crime for BritBox and ITVX, is adapting bestselling author CJ Tudor’s debut novel The Chalk Man for the screen.

The Bridge and Marcella creator Hans Rosenfeldt is on board as screenwriter, marking the second time he has worked on a Tudor novel, following his adaptation of The Burning Girls for Paramount+. That series is also being produced by Buccaneer, with Samantha Morton and Ruby Stokes starring.

The Chalk Man is the third Tudor novel Buccaneer is producing as a premium drama series, with post-apocalyptic thriller The Drift also in the works.

The novel focuses on four friends who communicate with each other by leaving secret code in chalk around the small English town they live in, until the chalk drawings are twisted in a sinister direction, leading them straight to a dismembered body hidden in the woods.

Richard Tulk-Hart, joint CEO of Buccaneer, said “We’re naturally delighted to be developing another of CJ Tudor’s gripping novels, particularly as The Chalk Man is her celebrated debut work. We’re excited to be once again marrying CJ’s compelling storytelling with Hans Rosenfeldt’s world-class screenwriting to create another premium screen thriller for audiences around the world.”
