BT launches new TV packages

Telco BT is shaking up the traditional pay TV subscription model in the UK with a new range of TV packages for series, films and sports content without annual contracts.

According to BT, the new packages offer customers “the freedom to choose the TV shows, film and sport they want, when they want,” with the flexibility to change their package every month.

Sky-owned SVoD service Now TV has been fully integrated with BT TV, allowing BT customers to watch premium Sky Entertainment and Sky Sports content on the BT TV platform. Customers can also access Amazon Prime Video and Netflix via the platform.

The 24-month packages will launch this Friday together with a choice of content bolt-ons to help customers select the TV line-up that best suits their needs.

The packages comprise: Entertainment (Sky Atlantic, Sky One and box sets, all from the Now TV Entertainment Pass for £10 [US$13] per month), Sport (all four BT Sport channels for £15), Big Entertainment (Sky Atlantic, Sky One, box sets and Sky Cinema for £20), Big Sport (all four BT Sport channels and all 11 Sky Sports channels for £40) and VIP (all entertainment and sports channels for £60).

Customers can also choose from a selection of 30-day bolt-ons including a Sky Sports, BT Sport or Sky Cinema pass which previously required customers to sign up to annual contracts.

Marc Allera, CEO of BT’s consumer division, said: “Life doesn’t stand still from month to month, so we don’t believe our customers’ TV should either. Our new range of TV packs bring together the best premium services, fully loaded with a wide range of award-winning shows, the best live sports in stunning 4K and the latest must-see films – all with the flexibility to change packs every month – with quick and easy search to find what you want to watch.

“So now, with a click of a button, you can take out the Big Sport package to catch the top Premier League fixtures one month and swap it for VIP for a rainy school holiday with the family the next.”
