Bryncoed bags NBCU’s Yap

UK indie Bryncoed Productions has appointed a former NBCUniversal (NBCU) acquisitions employee as its development producer.

Emma Yap

Emma Yap becomes Foz Allan-founded Bryncoed’s first senior hire and arrives as part of the company’s new creative strategy. Yap was previously global acquisitions executive at NBCU and has also worked in international sales for Bankside Films.

She produced the award-winning feature film Making It and is the co-founder of Female Film Leaders, which strives to address the gender imbalance in the film and TV industries.

Allan formed Bryncoed as a scripted production company, focusing on returning series and children’s drama. His credits include Sky Atlantic’s Riviera and ITV’s Jekyll & Hyde, and he also co-created Robin Hood for the BBC with Dominic Minghella.

“I wanted to challenge my abilities in a company that values creative courage, but is backed by experience and knowledge,” Yap said.

Allan added: “We want Bryncoed to be synonymous with smart, accessible drama with an emphasis on series for premium broadcasters and platforms.

“Our first major project is set to go into production, with exceptional writing, acting and production talent attached. Emma’s energy, vision and ambition will help us to create the next wave of brave creative projects.”

In April, Bryncoed was named among the class of 2018 for the UK Indielab accelerator programme.
